Basic stain removal

Wool being a natural fibre has its own special needs when it comes to stain removal which can be applied generally across the range of carpet styles.  It is not as simple as buying a spray on spot remover and expecting that to remove the stain but by following some basic techniques you will be able to limit the impact.

We are often asked how to treat spills if not with a spray spot remover.  The first thing to remember is that despite wishing to remove the stain you must be careful not to make the problem worse.  At NO stage of any stain removal should you rub the carpet.  If this is done the carpet can be damaged extensively and even if the stain was removed the damage would remain.

If the spill has solid content this can be removed with a spoon or similar blunt instrument.  If a solvent spotter is required it should be used first allowing plenty of ventilation.  Then using slightly damp pieces of Plain White kitchen roll, cold water can be used first to see if any of the spill transfers.  If it does then continue with this until no further effects can be seen.  In many cases this will have a good effect.  To increase the power of the cleaning action sparingly apply a Woolsafe Spot Remover as the next step.  In between dabbing the spot use dry towels to absorb any soil.  On many occasions this would be sufficient to remove many spills but there will always be times when more help is required.  On those occasions you may need to call a Profesional Cleaning Company like ours to remove the stain.
